[...] “You can’t cure stupid!” especially Detroit-stupid. ( update 2009-03-18 ) Well perhaps there is some slight hope for Detroit executives. It has been reported in Earth Magazine that they are doing a photo op carpool drive to Washington this time but it they had any sense at all they would arrive in a Chevrolet Volt. I will be interested to see how this plays out over the next few days. I would like to see them arrive in an Aptera. This is an opportunity for Aptera to drive to Washington and totally upstage the boys from Detroit. They might get some massive funding for their tiny company. Aptera founder Steve Fambro.

Aptera has released an update on it's upcoming 300 Mpg car. This car really approaches transportation from a very different vantage than does the rest of the auto industry. This car is slated to sell for $30,000 USD, and offers room for two. Here is a brief overview on the update ...

From Aptera's website:

"He [Fambro] hypothesized that a low-drag, aerodynamic body shape could be achieved without sacrificing comfort, drivability or safety."

Hmm, hypothesizing such a body shape is not that hard, especially since it had been proven for vehicle applications long ago:

http://www.recumbents.com/wisil/misc/londry/default.htm

I don't mean to take away from what Aptera has accomplished, but they imply that the distinctive shape was their design, but it was not. It was designed by Morrelli. Kelly Londry was the first to develop the 3-Wheel configuration (one back, two forward) with his human-powered Fusion.
