Gore’s New Slide Show: Rehab for Fossil Fuel Junkies

The folks at Ted just put up a video clip of Al Gore’s new climate change talk, which he presented at the annual conference. It’s got the same tone — “we have work to do. . . . what is missing is a sense of urgency,” — but also a new focus on technology solutions. He mentions solar concentrating plants, advanced solar photovoltaics and geothermal plants (and yep, he did acknowledge his personal investments in these). He also calls for “a price on carbon,” and says “We need a CO2 tax, revenue neutral, to replace taxation on employment.”

But our favorite quote is:

“Junkies find veins in their toes when the ones in their arms and their legs collapse. Developing tar sands and coal shale is the equivalent.”
