Putting a solar roof on a car to run its A/C is a gimmick. It goes 'green' for green's sake. The A/C will be running when there is nobody needs it. It can't even reduce the consumption of oil.

Compare this to building a solar roof over a parking lot. First of all it shield the car from heat and elements. The power generated will actually be used to offset the power need of a building. Also the solar panel can be used for its full life span instead of just the life time of the car, which often last only 10 years.

My VW came with a solar panel for this very reason when I bought it in 2004.
