Plug-In 2008: Video Demo of Coulomb’s Smart Charging

Coulomb Technologies just announced a partnership to deploy smart charging stations in the city of San Jose, and already the Campbell, Calif.-based is looking for its next locale. During a demonstration of the startup’s charging system (video embedded below), VP of engineering and software Harjinder Bhade told us that the company is in talks in with San Francisco and is planning on submitting to the city’s recent request for information.

The company’s charging stations use a simple key fob, like the one you might already use to buy gas, to unlock the station. A regular 110 volt extension cable plugs into the charger and then the charger’s smart software coordinates charging and discharging according to the grid’s needs. You’re alerted via text message when your car’s ready, and with a swipe of your key fob your good to go.
