Earth2Tech Week in Review
Congress is out for the summer, so in case you’re still frustrated that they haven’t gotten around to renewing those vital production and investment tax credits make sure you chat up your representatives when they’re home for vacation. If Congressional antics and inaction had you distracted this week, we’ve gathered the top cleantech stories for your here.
EEStor: The Story So Far: EEStor got third party verification on the purity of their dielectric. What does that mean for the stealthy startup’s ultracapacitor-like device?
13 Startups Working on Solar-Concentrating PV: A number of startups are focused on concentrating the sun’s rays onto a very small but very efficient photovoltaic chip. Here’s a list of the different players.
Why Cleantech Investors Love & Back Obama: Invest in Obama? Yes we can. Cleantech venture capitalists back Obama over McCain six to one.
MIT Researchers Deliver Solar Energy Storage Breakthrough: Inspired by photosynthesis, researchers at MIT say they’ve developed a cheap and easy way to store solar power by splitting water molecules to power fuel cells.
Bill Gates Trash Talks Bill Gates: Gates has so much money that pieces of his empire of investments are in conflict, specifically, his investments in trash.
Barrock Obama doesn’t have a brain when it comes to alternative energy. I don’t think he could even provide a good definition of what alternative energy is. Actually, he couldn’t provide a coherent definition of anything. I don’t dount that alternative venture capitalists like anyone who will give them govt welfare, regardless of the value of their technology. Look at crappy wind and solar PV, two completely useless means of generating small amounts of unreliable, unpredictable power.
MIT’s claim for storing solar power is pretty silly - there is no need for solar thermal - they already can store their energy for as long as it makes sense - till the next peak demand period. PV is just plain stupid, with or without energy storage capabilities.
The biggest mystery of all is why those anti-nuclear folks who halted new nuclear construction during the 1970’s do not admit that they are the cause of global warming. And why do websites like this one
avoid talking nuclear? Is it because the technology of PBMR is just too enticing and you want to keep it hidden? It’s far further along towards commercialization (Sping 2008 will see the first operating plant in South Africa). Looks like the South Africans are going to be exporting their Westinghouse/Mitsubishi/German built technology
before the alternative energy folks here in the states have produced their paltry 10,000 average megawatts over a 4 year period. They can match that in six months, at 1/4th the cost and produce power on demand - no need to duplicate the generation power capacity because our crappy alternative energy system can’t guarantee any peak
demand capacity. America’s alternative energy system is broke, and Obama can’t fix it - he doesn’t have a clue as to what it does in the first place. promise annother billion Obama, promise another billion, that’ll satisfy your brainless supporters.
Kerry and Tom: how remarkably vocal yet uninformed. A few tips: read “Solar Revolution” if you are interested in doing the math on PV (spoiler: it can generate 100x what we need at lower costs) and read “Winning our Energy Independence” (specifically the part on Nucleair) if you want to have an educated opinion on policy matters (especially regarding Nucleair). Both can be checked on amazon.com and with “Search inside”.
