The only thing ugly about it is the lack of a grille. (of course it doesn't need one; i'd just rather see one anyway) Granted the $45k price seems high for it's styling, but still I'd buy one.

Mainly because it looks like a normal car. The Tesla is ugly. The Nissan Leaf if f-ing ugly. The i MiEV looks like a stupid Smart car with 4doors. I'm not one of those desperate individuals with low self-esteem that begs to drive a bizzare-looking car so that I can get people's attention. I drive my car to work, to the grocery store, take the kids to school, to the hardware store, go out to dinner, visit with relatives in the country, go on vacation twice a year... I'm not gonna do that in a Tesla. I'm not even gonna do all that in a Prius either. Why? Because the Prius is butt-ugly. I wouldn't buy a (typical) hybrid because they're merely placeboes, but if I were I'd get the Honda Civic Hybrid. Because it looks like a Civic!

I don't need the car to try and push the boundaries of cutting-edge design and performance. Not when it breaks the boundaries of poor taste. Don't try to be so trendy on the outside; put your technology under the surface and I'm good with that. The Chevy Volt is looking more and more like a "normal" car the closer it gets to production. I'd buy one of those, definately. Not boundary-pushing ugly on the outside + plenty of earthy-friendly goodness on the inside.

The Coda Sedan isn't ugly, it just looks like your normal everyday car. If the Toyota Corolla came as a plug-in, I'd buy one.

after looking at this thing, it's no wonder we are still dependent on foreign oil...

i mean, i've seen some poorly designed vehicles in recent past, but this ranks right along side them. oh, and it must be purchased online? where's the customer experience in that?

This vehicle is not new, it's a rebadge.

Once CODA sells you the car, who is going to support servicing it? This minor detail has not been mentioned in many articles, if any. Should the car not decide to move one day, does CODA expect the customer to take (tow) the vehicle to some facility in Santa Monica? Hopefully, people will think long and hard about this before they consider putting their hard-earned money down.

I'll stick with the new-gen, proven, Prius at 50 mpg, where I know there are 7 Toyota dealers within a 10 mile radius.

where’s the value for my forty-five grand?<<<

Um, never having to change the oil again.
Never putting a new muffler on.

"That [price] puts it in the high end for the mass market."

But the looks and features (interior shots?) appear to make it a $45,000 Corolla with a hundred mile range. It might sell to a few guilty and wealthy Hummer owners, buy-any-car Jay Leno and other assorted pretending-to-be-green celebrities, but where's the value for my forty-five grand? Gimme a clean diesel instead.
